Disaster Relief & Missions

United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR)
Providing Disaster Relief Around the World
UMCOR leads our disaster relief efforts around the world, helping our local contributions make a difference where they are needed most. UMCOR is dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe, and their work reaches people in more than 80 countries including the United States. Through this denominational relief organization, we provide humanitarian relief when war, conflict, or natural disaster disrupt life to such an extent that communities are unable to recover on their own.

Midwest Mission
Partnered with UMCOR and other trusted nonprofits, Midwest Mission is a logistical conduit for Christ's ministry. They receive requests for help, then prepare items in their inventory and ask supporters for needed items. Volunteers process, revitalize, and assemble the donated items. Then, donations are shipped to trusted partners to distribute to those in crisis.

Plarn Sleeping Mats
One of Midwest Mission's projects is making Plarn Sleeping Mats. Plarn is plastic yarn made out of plastic grocery bags. The Sleeping Mats are sent internationally and locally. They are great for those who need a barrier between them and the hard ground. They have been sent for disaster relief, for the homeless, and for those who need temporary sleeping arrangements.
We have a loom at our church where you can help make these mats. On the first and third Wednesdays between 1:00 and 3:00 p.m., volunteers are working on weaving mats at the church.
You may also donate clean plastic shopping bags in any color. Drop off your bags in the collection area in the church Gathering Space.
