Social Justice
Tangible steps toward a more just world
At Mount Horeb UMC, we take our baptismal vows seriously — promising to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves. Our Social Justice Team leads the way through advocacy, education, and action. We host movie screenings, book studies, and workshops to learn about issues that matter — and then we put our faith into practice with tangible steps toward a more just world.
Mercy ministries respond to immediate needs (like food and clothing drives), while justice ministries work to address the deeper systems behind those needs. There's a place for you in this work. Check the church calendar for upcoming meetings — we’d love for you to join us. Please contact the church office for more information.

Bystander Intervention Training
If you missed this training opportunity held on September 4, we invite you to visit Right To Be's website for other upcoming sessions.
Hate, harassment, and violence against immigrants is on the rise—but everyday people have the power to create safer, more inclusive communities. Right To Be’s Bystander Intervention to Support Immigrant Communities Training equips participants with the tools to safely and effectively intervene when they witness anti-immigrant hate, harassment, or discrimination.
Using Right To Be’s 5Ds of Bystander Intervention methodology—Distract, Delegate, Document, Delay, and Direct—this interactive training empowers participants to take action while prioritizing safety. Whether it’s witnessing xenophobic comments, workplace discrimination, ICE encounters, or public harassment, this training provides practical, real-world strategies to support immigrants facing harm.
Together, we can create a culture of safety, solidarity, and dignity for immigrant communities. Join us to become an active bystander and help build a more just world.
