Youth Ministry

Growing in faith.
Serving in community. Belonging here.

Youth Ministry at MHUMC

We believe our youth don’t just belong to the future of the church — they belong to now. At Mount Horeb United Methodist Church (MHUMC), middle school and high school students join a vibrant community where questions are welcome, service is central, and faith means living out something bigger than ourselves.

Confirmation Class for 6th-12th grade

October 19, 2025 - April 12, 2026

Learning
We begin with a six-week classroom series, meeting after Sunday worship to explore the foundations of Christian faith: Scripture, church tradition, the life of Jesus, and what it means to follow Christ as United Methodists. Along the way we take two field trips to deepen our understanding and engagement.

Wrestling
After the classroom phase, each student is paired with a mentor who meets with them through the winter. We talk about faith and doubt, prayer and scripture, how you live your faith, and where God might be calling you.

Serving

Starting in February during Lent, we meet together on Wednesday nights for a shared meal and a group service project. In March, we take a mission trip together with students from Sugar River UMC—living our faith in action beyond the walls of the church.

Worship

Throughout the year we encourage regular Sunday worship attendance and invite students into leadership roles for Ash Wednesday and Confirmation Sunday. These milestones help our young people mark their journey of faith in meaningful communal worship. Youth are always welcome to participate in leading worship.

Safe Sanctuary & Youth Safety

Your child’s safety matters to us. All youth ministry volunteers and mentors at MHUMC are trained and background-checked under our Safe Sanctuary Policy, designed to provide a safe, welcoming, and protective environment for youth, children, and vulnerable adults.

Want to Get Involved?

  • Speak with Pastor Becky or the Church Office to register your student.
  • Mentors are always welcome. If you’d like to walk alongside a young person in faith, let us know!
  • Watch the church calendar for upcoming youth events and mission-trip details.
  • Keep the conversation going at home: ask your teen about what they’re learning, what questions they have, and how they see themselves serving and belonging.

We’re excited to walk this journey together – with students, families, and mentors – growing as disciples of Jesus Christ in the Mount Horeb community and beyond.
